Seattle in July doesn't ask for your wallet. It just asks you to show up.

Between farmers markets, art walks, festivals, and a handful of neighborhood garage sale days that are exactly as fun as they sound, there is a lot happening for the rest of this month that costs nothing at all. I put this list together neighborhood by neighborhood so you can find something close to home, or use it as an excuse to explore a part of the city you don't get to often.

Here is a full list of free things to do in Seattle in July, organized by neighborhood so you can find something close to home.

Ballard

Start your Sunday at the Ballard Farmers Market, running 9am to 2pm with over 100 vendors. Free concerts continue at the Ballard Locks every Saturday and Sunday at 2pm through the rest of the month. The Ballard Art Walk lands on the second Saturday, July 11, 6 to 9pm. If you're headed to Golden Gardens this summer, the Golden Gardens Direct shuttle runs through August 30, a $3 fare that's free for riders 18 and under. And the beach itself, of course, is always free.

Fremont

The Fremont Sunday Market runs 10am to 4pm with around 200 booths of vintage finds, food, and local goods. Fremont Fridays brings free live music and art to multiple venues around the neighborhood every Friday from 5pm until late, running through September 11 (a few of the individual stages are 21+). And no visit to Fremont is complete without a stop at the Troll, always free, always a little strange.

Wallingford

Donation based yoga happens in the park at Gas Works Thursdays 6 to 8pm for the rest of the summer. The Wallingford Farmers Market runs Wednesdays 3 to 7pm through the end of September. Meridian Park's playground and green space are always free and always a good excuse to bring a picnic.

South Lake Union

Free outdoor movies continue at Denny Park as part of the Center City Cinema series, kicking off July 8 with Blade Runner. The Center for Wooden Boats is always free to visit, open Wednesday through Sunday, and includes free rowboat rentals right on Lake Union. The South Lake Union Farmers Market runs Saturdays 10am to 3pm through November 11.

Capitol Hill

The Capitol Hill Farmers Market runs Sundays 11am to 3pm, with an additional Tuesday session 3 to 7pm through late September. The neighborhood's art walk happens the second Thursday, July 9, 5 to 8pm. Volunteer Park's water tower is always free to climb for one of the best views in the city.

University District

The U District Farmers Market is Seattle's largest food only market, running Saturdays 9am to 2pm. The neighborhood's art walk happens the third Friday, July 17. The Henry Art Gallery is free every single day, no exceptions.

Pioneer Square

The Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park runs free self guided exhibits daily, a quick and easy stop if you're already in the neighborhood. (Pioneer Square's famous first Thursday art walk already happened this month, the next one lands August 6.)

Downtown

Downtown's art walk lands on the fourth Friday, July 24, 5 to 8pm. And Pike Place Market, of course, is always free to wander, even if you leave without buying a single thing.

Belltown

The Belltown Art Walk happens the second Friday, July 10, 6 to 9pm, and if you're 21 and up, a few venues add drinks and live music into the mix. Olympic Sculpture Park is always free and open dawn to dusk, with some of the best views of Elliott Bay in the city.

West Seattle

This is a big month for West Seattle. West Seattle Summer Fest takes over The Junction July 10 through 12, a free three day street festival with live music, more than 160 vendors, food trucks, and a kids' zone. The West Seattle Grand Parade follows on Saturday, July 18 at 11am, a free tradition that's been running since 1935. The West Seattle Farmers Market folds into Summer Fest on Sunday, and otherwise runs Sundays 10am to 2pm year round. The neighborhood's art walk happens the second Thursday, July 9, 5 to 8pm. Constellation Park is a free tide pooling spot on Alki, with naturalists on hand during low tides through the end of July. And Alki Beach, the Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center (free daily, closed Sundays and Mondays), and the Seattle Chinese Garden (free daily, dusk to dawn) round out a neighborhood that's hard to beat this time of year.

Georgetown

The Georgetown Farmers Market runs Thursdays 3 to 7pm through the start of October. Art Attack happens the second Saturday, July 11. And the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall, a genuinely fun stop full of vintage travel trailers turned shops, is always free to browse on Saturdays and Sundays 11am to 4pm.

PhinneyWood

Phinney Ridge and Greenwood come together for PhinneyWood Garage Sale Day on Saturday, July 11, one of the better excuses to walk the neighborhood and see what your neighbors are letting go of. Woodland Park and its Rose Garden are always free and always worth the visit.

Maple Leaf

Maple Leaf's FREE Yard Sale Day lives up to its name. On Sunday, July 12, 10am to 2pm, neighbors give away free stuff, no exchange of money involved at all. Maple Leaf Reservoir Park is always free and a nice way to round out the visit.

Lakewood and Seward Park

The Lakewood Seward Park Community Garage Sale Day happens Sunday, July 12, 9am to 2pm. If you're already in the area, the Seward Park loop trail and beach are always free and one of the more underrated spots in South Seattle.

Madison Park and the Arboretum

The Madison Park Farmers Market runs Saturdays 10am to 2pm through mid October. The Washington Park Arboretum is always free to walk, any day of the week.

Seattle Center

Polish Festival Seattle runs Saturday, July 11, noon to 7pm. Movies at the Mural, the campus's free outdoor movie series, kicks off Friday, July 24 with a screening of Wonka, and continues through August 21. And the International Fountain and the rest of the Seattle Center grounds are always free to explore, festival or not.

Beacon Hill

The Beacon Arts Street Fair takes over the plaza outside El Centro de la Raza on Saturday, July 11, 11am to 5pm, this month's theme is Garden Party, with live music, an art market, food vendors, and a free seed and plant share. Jefferson Park is always free and offers one of the best skyline views in the city. And the Beacon Hill Branch Library runs free programs for all ages, year round.

White Center and Delridge

The Rat City Art Walk brings more than 80 local artists to White Center's business core on Thursday, July 16, 5 to 8pm (a few venues are 21+). Just down the road, the Delridge Farmers Market runs Saturdays 10am to 2pm through the end of October, Seattle's only BIPOC priority farmers market, where vendors keep 100 percent of their sales.
